Bootlace ferrules are typically used for wire end termination of stranded conductors, to ensure all strands are retained in a terminal and contribute to the connection. For smaller single strand wires, ferrules can be useful to ensure good alignment of a wire in a terminal and the insulation of the ferrule can help prevent exposed conductors outside of the terminal.
Sizing of bootlace ferrules indicates the cross sectional area of the wire that they are suitable for.
