SBS Mini (Anderson Power Products)
The SBS Mini is a two pole housing that utilises the same contact inserts as used in the Power Pole 15/45 series. The SBS mini with its ergonomic shape is a useful as an alternative to a pair of PP15/45 connectors and are ideal for low voltage supplies for devices that might require disconnecting from a supply. Available in four colours; each colour has a unique key to ensure only two SMS Mini of the same colour can be mated. Recommended DC polarity is indicated on the housing. Apart from the key between the two contacts, the contact housing shares the same form factor as the PP15/45 and ( in an emergency!) individual PP15/45 connectors can be mated with an SBS Mini [ obviously in this case, there is no polarity protection ! ].
After crimping / soldering, insertion of contacts requires no special tooling. The contact is inserted from the rear of the housing until the leading edge 'clicks' over a blade spring that is inbuilt in the housing. Contacts with thinner wires might be assisted by pressing on the rear end of the contact with a suitable blunt screwdriver or similar.
The SBS mini is available with contacts to accommodate 3 ranges of wire sizes. The contacts are named for the approximate current carrying capacity of the wires that they accommodate; the mating size of the different contacts is identical and so mixed contact 'sizes' can be mated.:
15A : 20 to 16 AWG ( 0.52 to 1.3 mm² ) closed contact - crimp or solder
30A : 16 to 12 AWG (1.3 to 3.3 mm² ) closed contact - crimp or solder
45A : 14 to 10 AWG (2.1 to 5.3 mm² ) open contact - crimp only
